Irving Álvarez, one of the co-founders of Almont Dental, is a multifaceted individual
whose story is rooted in both professional excellence and personal passion. Born in
West Covina, California, into a family deeply connected to dentistry, Irving’s journey to
becoming a renowned periodontist and implantologist was shaped by unique
experiences, academic achievements, and a deep love for music.
A Musical Beginning
Music was a significant part of Irving’s early life. His mother, recognizing his potential
and wanting to keep her children engaged, encouraged Irving and his brother to explore
various activities. While his brother Anthony thrived in sports, Irving found his true
calling in music. “I was bad at sports,” Irving admits with a laugh. “Anthony was the star
player, and I was the kid they never put in the game.”
Seeing this, his mother decided to take both boys out of soccer and enroll them in music
lessons. Irving quickly excelled, eventually joining the Nayarit Orchestra as a violinist.
“Music came naturally to me,” he recalls. “It became a huge part of my life during those
years.”
However, as he entered dental school, maintaining his commitment to music became a
challenge. “The violin is a jealous instrument,” Irving explains. “If you don’t dedicate
hours to it every day, you lose the skill.” So, he transitioned from the violin to the guitar,
which allowed him to balance his growing responsibilities as a dental student. The guitar
became his companion, enabling him to continue his passion for music even while
dedicating himself to his dental studies.
